Alright guys i have a question about the EBPV TUBE. I have seen alot of threads on them and how they are alot of the problem with poor gas milage. Well i want too know were it is located how hard is it to get out and clean. The other question is i read where a guy unpluged the sensers is that alright for the truck i understand it will send codes but is it hurting anything. I hope some one can help me out with that.
If you look at the front of the front top of the motor you will see the hpop resivour. It is located on the front of it down about 6 or 8" and a little to the left. I had mine unplugged for over a year. Never set any codes as far as i can remember. But i thought i would replace the broken one and see if it made a differance with milage etc. In my oppinion i never really noticed any changed but its there for a reson so it might as well be working. Hope this helps!! Oh ya welcome to the club!!!!
It runs from the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold,I could see it through the wheel opening just in front of the tire between the frame rail and inner fender. Easier from underneath, more leverage. To just behind the fan, top center of the engine. I recommend a good 16mm wrench and lots of penetrating fluid, and a 14mm to hold the bracket from twisting. Mine was plugged solid at the manifold as well as the manifold, and also the switch itself was plugged, used several size drill bits (by hand) to remove the crud along with brakekleen.
Check for cracks in the tube. As for unpluging it and codes I'll leave that to more knowledgeables, lot of threads on that subject also.
I too, have gotten mixed replies on this EBPV tube issue, as mine is clogged solidly. I unplugged BOTH sensors (on the turbo-base, and on the tube itself)....no codes, but the high-idle exhaust mode still exists (??) I am awaiting to see if my mileage improves from the lousy 12MPG I am getting now. At least my new smoked headlights look good....
Is it wise to just unplug the sensor with a view to preventing a future problem? If so, should the tube still be cleaned out or does it not matter? What benefit will be lost by having the sensor unplugged?
