24volt boost?

All,

I got a 96 PSD off of an auction. THey went to boost it to start it and gave it 24 volts for boost..
Questions:
1)what would it fry first
2)what could it fry
3)truck was running when parked..now it has nothing.
4)GPR tests out fine...
5)GP are fine.
6)PCM Maxi Fuse 20A was toasted.

OBDII scanner won't communicate..

YOu think is is the PCM????

PCM and/or IDM, check ALL your fuses, one of the fuses supplies power to a scanner. I've had scanners that simply wont work or wont cummunicate and it was a burnt fuse. Dont know what location its on the OBS truck but the 99-03 I know has them sharing the same fuse as the cigerette lighter.

I hope your related problems will be limited to just your PCM if it is your problem.

check all the fuses first. hopefully they did their job but I don't know it they blow in and over voltage condition just over amperage.

fuses ok

All fuses were ok, the only blown fuse was the 20A maxi that is labeled "powertrain control module". Replaced the fuse, and put the scanner on it...scanner powers up through just the obdII and I select codes and it just sits there and eventually give me an communication error... Truck cranks, but it is like the injectors aren't working.....well I found another PCM and put it in and wallah....fired right up..put the scanner back on and only code I am getting is something like "exhaust sensor pressure low"..any idea what this code means???

good to hear its running. the code probably mean the exhuast back pressure sensor tube that goes from the passenger side manifold up to the rear of the HPOP reservior is plugged. its common and really isn't needed because all it does is control a butterfly vavle int he exhuast that closes on cold startup to aid in engine warm up. its doesn't work very well and can close at bad times so many including myself just unhook the soleniod for the velve. the connector is bolted to the turbo just under the air filter tubing right where it hooks to the turbo. its a two wire connector just unplug it and forget it! no more problem but it will keep the code in there but not set a check engine light.

glad to hear its working and thanx for letting us know.

About the code, is it an active code??? If its inactive it could be from the donor truck that code was set................but the ecm was unplugged so scratch what I just said.

Man I hear that, everytime I used to take my vehicle in the ford house they would get $1000 out of me.

Left my lights on at work the other day and had to jump it. That got me wondering if it mattered which battery you used. Owners manual says only use passenger side battery for jump starting because it has larger cables. Anyway, it also said that jumping with 24 volts can damage the starter and the glow plug system beyond repair. Didn't say anything about the PCM. I guess if you start having glow plug issues you'll know why.

FYI: You jump off of the passengers side battery because it is the one that feeds everthing. The cables from it go to the starter solenoid, starter, and vehicle & engine feed. The drivers side battery cables go to the passengers side battery first.

Not sure which battery they used to jump it, but it did fry the starter as well. I forgot to post that..GPR and GP are fine, but the PCM and Starter were toasted..

Somebody should've been assasinated for their stupidity in trying to jump a 12v vehicle with 24v. My goodness, people get stupider as the years go by. Glad to hear you got it up and running. By the way, how much did you pay for the truck and how many miles does she have?
