ok here is my plan i think it will work...seen the website with the guy who welded his dana 50 ford f250 ttb solid and later on put on 2 1/2 ton....do you know the guy?...website? i lost it? but anyways i plan on doing just that then buying the sky manufacturing 5.5 shackle reversal and rear flip kit on top of my installed 4 inch with drop brakets but to be removed with the welding of my dana 50 ttb. also the shackle reversal says for 92-97...i have an 89 whats the diffrence? i plan on trying it anyways. does this sound like a good idea. i think so. i have an 89 ford f250 diesel 4x4 with 4 inch rough country lift.
I can comment. Somebody is smokin some serious stuff. Why in the world would somebody waste perfectly good welding rod to fuse an already weak front axle. The only good thing about the TTB is that it actually has a pivot. The rest is junk. Now by fusing it, you eliminate the one thing that makes it worth talking about. The D50 is not much more than a D44 with big knuckles, big whoop
Before you go spending much time, and effort doing this modification, why not simply do a SAS with a real solid front axle instead of trying to make one?
D44's are cheap, and although 60's are more expensive, will ultimately be the way you will go (eventually). Why not do it right the first time?
Yeah listen to 75f350 he knows what hes doin. By the way i jsut checked that 83 chassis i got and the springs are a good bit wider that my 79 f-250. To do a solid axle swap on his 89 wont he have to weld on new spring perches? And also is the front axle the same width as his ttb? I dont know so i figured id ask.
Interesting to note, there's a guy on Pirate who took a rear end, some spare dana 60 shafts and D50 inner knuckles on out and made a solid front axle for his bronco. Seriously. . .interesting, lol.
to do an sas on my truck i would just have to use a d60 from the same year or so f350 and swap over the steering right? for what i do with my truck i havent had any problems with my d50. the 4x4 gets plenty of use and havent broke anything to date. what i want is just some more lift on the cheap and you cant lift my truck any higher with those drop down brakets. for every inch you lift the truck you have to drop the brakets the same. fabricate some drop down brackets you say. well i could but i feel with the shackle reversal will have for improved ride and i wont be twisting my springs sided to side with the nature of the ford ttb. to me a very poor design twisting sise to side the shackles and springs on the f250. on a 150 i feel it is good as they have coil springs makes sense to me then. i'm going to weld it inthe next week or so. i will post pics and info on a web page of the builup.
I saw the same guy, he was developing a kit to turn your TTB into a solid axle, he was
showing pictures of each step of his specific engineering to do the project.
If it works why not???
