Question Filter "Cross-Ref." ?

Gentlemen (and/or ladies) ... Wally-World Strikes again! (lol) Can't afford a "real" fuel filter (been on work. comp. for 6 months & 3 days now) - but I needed one (W-A-A-A-Y overdue!) - so I got a Fram at Wal*Mart. I rolled the dice on a "G8018", as it was applicable in every way, shape and form that I could see/figure - EXCEPT for their book there.

Now, I do have a Flex-Fuel Ranger, but, as this same filter ("G8018") was listed for another Flex-Fuel Ford (1999 but different model - forget right now, was a bigger truck or SUV I believe). This filter should (WILL) "bolt-on" - but should I be aware of something else regarding FFV or "pressure" on this system - in other words - could Wal*Marts book (and in fact, Fram's website too) be wrong - rather - not updated well enough?? They also did same thing with the Tauruses as with the Rangers.

Thx in advance,
Glenn ...

Well, according to the O'reilly auto parts website, Wix shows a different # for the flex fuel than the standard. I believe it is the material that it is made of because the E85 is much more corrosive than gasoline.
To be sure, try sending a PM to y2kfordparts. He is very helpful and is a Ford parts dealer. He can probably fix you up.
They only showed one filter for 98-99 on their website.

The Motorcraft site also shows a different filter for flex fuel.
FG986B = gas eng.
FG991 = flex eng.

Thanks again Jimmy - actually, Triple-THX.

There is likely good reason (VERY!) for this - as you mentioned, the ethanol(85%) - while being more "potent" (from what I've read - "higher octane") - is also more harsh/corrosive ("much more" -?) ... though I am still left pretty-danged curious why the Fram App. Book listed that filter for another FFV - in fact, another `99 Ford FFV (???). I'll glance at that book next chance I get later this week, and report the fact here when I do.

This being the most likely (only that I can imagine) reason for this filter not making the grade for my FF/Ranger - I believe I'm going to go ahead and install it as I've pumped not one drop of E-85 (for better or worse) in 7-8 years/148K+ (it is NOT readily available - to me - and I traverse half of the state of VA on a regular basis). I did finally get to "pull into" a PUBLIC station carrying it a week or two ago (the vast majority of E-85 stations on the east-coast are on govt./military installations - at least in the VA/WV/Wash., DC area) ... reason I did NOT pump it (?): it was $2.639/10, and I was heading to an area (with half a tank of conventional) where I could purchase said 'fossil' for $2.469/10 ... if I am getting regular gas for less (ESPECIALLY ALMOST 20 cent/gal. LESS!!), AND better MPG out of it - it's no contest for me ... I AM an American, I in fact LIVE AND work on a farm - and hell, sure I'd like to do what I can for the environment, my neighbors - AND future generations - but we ... I - is po'! I have a couple kids to support - if Big Biz (that is; "particular" or "certain" BIG BIZ'S) is/are not interested in me (us - any/ALL of us), and if it's not feasible for Uncle Sam to SOMEHOW 'share', or foster - not only more "Green-ness" - but also ramp-up CONCRETE efforts and MEANS of disposing with the nations seeming addiction to FOREIGN crude - well, I gotta - and make no mistake - I'm-a-gonna - take care of me & mine.

~***I apologize to anyone that may not have tuned-in here for this, which more-or-less turned into a political op-ed.***~

Thx again,
Glenn ...

I agree, I will not buy a foreign car, but I can not see paying more money for less MPG!!! That's not American either. So, if you only use real gasoline and it has the same size fittings and such, I would use it. There is no pressure difference or anything, just must not be resistant to the corrosive fuel, but since you don't use it, it should be ok.
