@ 97k Miles, the fuel system is prolly getting tired.

Do you use a fuel additive?

Do you have any intake mods, soup bowl removed, bigger snorkel, and most important, how big is your exhaust system. The stock 2 1/2 on the 7.3 are very restrictive, must have been designed for sound, cause it sure wasn't for power. Exhaust on N/A should be at least 3" and if you need to change it anyway, go for 4".

With the weight your talking, the old N/A at 45-50 is doing OK if everything is still stock.

How fast are you able to go on level highway pulling that weight? When I first got my truck with 122,000 miles I could only get about 55mph tops on level road pedal to the floor. Changed the filters and better, changed the ip after that and made even more improvement. Haven't pulled my camper yet(about 6500lbs loaded) since changing injectors but this has made a BIG difference in power empty. I'm still learning about these older diesels but with the help of these guys on this board you can do just about all these things yourself. I personally value the opinions I get on here much more than some Jack-*** shop that tells me to just leave it and we''ll check it out and give you a bill. I've heard many people say these trucks are total slugs and gutless, and I thought that same thing soon after I bought mine. My dually is all stock still but I can tell you that now it's far from a slug and has very good pep.(now to get this damn tranny to shift right!) Sorry for the long post but that's my 2 cents.

How much frontal area does the fiver have?

You are not just pulling 6000 pounds, you are pulling a sail also.

70 square feet of frontal area takes 78 HP to maintain 55 MPH on level road.

I do not have those numbers, but I can tell you the increase is not linear it is more like exponential.

90 square feet at 55 is 99 HP.

I have a rather large frontal area.
I am working a little over 120 miles from home right now.

If I drive 70 to 75 MPH my MPG is 10
If I drive 60 to 65 MPH my MPG is 13.5

Fuel is 3.11 a gallon here now.

Time for an overdrive.

Is you air cleaner dirty? If the engine can't breath, it won't make much power.
