Drilling FRAME?!

I bought this package on ebay for 415 bucks..... grille gaurd, tube steps, and tail light gaurd, that are all black powder coated, and made from rancho. On the installation tips it says that i have to drill holes through the frame. Im sure one of you guys out there has popped some tube steps or something on your truck that you have to drill through part of the frame. I was just wondering if anyone knows what drills and tools work best or advice for it before i go attempting to modify some beastly metal. Any help would be Great. Thanks

A quality center punch is very helpful. Then a good set of bits, preferably titanium or cobalt. Start w/a small hole and step up gradually, some cutting oil never hurt either. A quality torquey drill is also nice, I prefer my 1/2" 8amp Dewalt.

I would recommend quality bits, oil, and make sure there isn't anything on the other side, ie brake lines and such. Other than that, it should be fairly simple to do.

P.S. If you need to drill holes larger than 1/2", you will need a 1/2" drill to hold the larger bits.

Drilling FRAME?!

I use those Black and Decker Pirranah bits (don't know about that spelling!) to drill into frames. They have a little relief cut into the tips that really cut well. Just have to take it really easy, with any bit, just as you are about to go all the way through. When you feel it about to go, ease off a little and let the drill do the work, don't force it. It will break the bit every time!
