Rear Suspension

The other day I was working on taking some stuff off the underside of my 68' Shortbed when I happened to look at the leaf springs. What I saw caught me off gaurd. I have a set of 3 springs on the bottom then a small block and another set of two springs. My question is this stock, or did the previous owner ( believe I am the second owner ) add the second set for a different ride?

Some trucks have two sets like you discribed, do the second set have
snubber brackets on the frame where they snubb the end of the top set of
springs when loaded? They work well!
