Will it work? By the generosity of a fellow FTE'er I have aquired a slightly used stock tranny cooler, If I were to mount the additional cooler above the original and plumb the lines, running them in series, top cooler getting hot fluid, flowing to bottom cooler, flowing back to tranny. would it provide the extra cooling of a say a 6.0 coooler?
I know the 6.0 cooler has like 25-30 tubes and the 7.3 coolers only have 9, but I have free parts and want to use them.
Also does anyone know if this might put an additional flow strain on the pump, I believe I would gain about a qt or so of fluid volume, maybe more
My logic says it *should* cool the fluid twice as many degrees as a single cooler, right? Sounds good to me, i don't know how you are going to mount it, because i dont think there is room for another stock cooler above it without interfering with the intercooler. The 6.0 cooler is 300% of the volume of the 7.3 cooler if i am not mistaken. But if you got it for the right price, why not attempt it?
I guess the real question here is why he isn't still using the cooler himself? Di he get a new tranny like me and a new cooler as well. Just upgrade to a bigger cooler? I used to run a dual cooler set up, until I got my BTS with the 6.0 cooler. It did help. but in the long run I still needed the whole set up. If you know it isnt full of old tranny clutch pieces and such it wouldn't hurt to dual cool. Buuut well you don't want to introduce any contaminants into the tranny.

Cooler would of course be cleaned before install, and it came from a member that I know pretty well, and we venture out and camp together. I believe he upgradeded to a Tru cool or a 6.0 cooler, cant remember wich, and his tranny is still holding together. so I guess what I am saying is I am not worried about the source, just the result.
Not only does it cool better but if and when you finally do get it good and hot it will recover a lot faster. After smoking my first tranny, I did this and made me wonder how my first tranny lasted as long as it did.
I bought my truck with an extra cooler mounted on the face of the intercooler down low, i think i sent a pic to kris to see what he thought, or maybe im wrong and it is stock just in a different place, did you ever get it kris? I dont have a tranny temp gauge other than the stock switch type in the dash but it never makes it to half way I would need another gauge for egt to tell you if it affects the intercooler i think?

Yeeah i got that picture. I am debating on spending the $325 on a 6.0 cooler for the trans build when i never pull anything or haul anything heavy. As of yet. Non-functional trans temp gauge since i installed gauges, but one is coming tomorrow or saturday so i will monitor the temps on the way to BTS. What do you think i should do? Kind of strapped for $$ with $1250 of taxes to pay before i leave.
From what I've read, stacking stock coolers is not recommended, it can result in too high/low pressure, that's why the 6.0 cooler is so popular. Low pressure drop aftermarket coolers are ok to stack with the stock cooler, though.
I believe that running two stock tranny coolers will work, the only question would be if there would be any added restriction of flow. I know the 6.0 cooler has 1/2 fittings which is larger than the 3/8 stock cooler fittings. I don't think it would be any different than those guys that are running a trucool and the stock cooler.

What do the folks at BTS say? What did Jeremy go with? My gauge works but barely. The only time I see it make any kind of real move is towing the boat in July and August, FWIW. Seems the PSD cooler is sufficient for light to no loads but lays down when towing big. Heat kills a tranny.
