help with HP calculations
i have 2x 7.3 IDI turbo "93 in my boat . "star powr" marinised them . they rate them at 260 HP ? they each have a aftercooler and 5 inch exhausts . also the water system is cooled by heat exchanger from the sea water . so , over heating not a problem . does anyone know if it is possible with the aboved mentioned items to get 260 HP out of these engines and what sort of max RPM"S am i looking at ? thank you in advance
viv
Are you thinking they are delivering less than 260 HP?
A 7.3 is normally goverened to something between 3300 and 3600 RPM.
The supplier should have run several on a dyno to be able to rate them at 260 HP.
Do you have any idea how much boost the turbo is putting out?
Do you have any idea what you are running for EGT?
Ford rated the engine very conservatively since they were developing the Power Stroke at that time.
No one would spend the money for a Power Stroke engine if the IDI was putting out as much or more power.
Also the exhaust they used choked the turbo down quite a bit.
Your radiator is big enough to be able to run at max HP for hours without overheating, that is not true for trucks.
Also the oil cooler would be able to do a much better job cooling the oil in a boat.
