Question barely power steering?

My 73 F100 4x4 is equipped with powersteering but it is still a struggleing two hand effort when pulling in or out of parking spaces.I am sure I amgetting some hydraulic assistance but not much. Is this normal or should be able to spin the wheel with one finger?

What size tires do you have. I have 35's and even when i had 33's the steering took two hand effort when parking. How is it when driving.

Stupid ideas but check your tension on the belt. Make sure you have fluid. Make shure there IS a belt there to begin with. And its quite possible that the power steering assist ram might have taken a dump. On my 76 Hiboy the assist ram went out on it and there were no aftermarket or reproduction pieces available.

As far as tires, I am running 235/75/15s . They do have an aggressive tread on them.My fluid and belt tension is ok.I do have the hydraulic cylinder opposed to the hydro assisted power steering gearbox if that makes a difference.

That would make sense that the seals in my ram are shot.I have a friend that is parting out a 74 F100 but it is 2wd.I am guessing that it won't have the same set-up as a 4x4.

The Garrison type P/S control valve your truck uses, has two ball studded draglink ends that thread on to the valve. Both are prolly worn out, which will cause free play in the p/s system. The ram cylinder has rubber bushings that mount it to the frame. When the bushings wear, the ram cylinder will flop around. There are seal kits available for both the ram and control valve.

D3TZ-3304-E .. L/S Draglink w/Stud~9 3/6" -length

OLDBLUE2: I find it rather odd you can't get parts for your F250 ram cylinder~who told you the parts weren't available?
Prolly some idiot that didn't want to bother looking them up.

If you need the assist cylinder rebuilt take it to a good hydraulic shop. The same goes for power steering hoses. Any time I need a power steering hose I go to my local hydraulic shop and get one made. It sure beats going to the parts store and getting the wrong one and the shop is comparatively price to the parts store.
