ok so over the last couple of days ive noticed a really bad noise comming from under my truck.
the noise sounds like knifes being sharpend. it gets faster the faster i go. and it does this in any gear (clutch in or out) and only when under power along with the noise is a noticable vibration in the cab.
I think its comming from the diff, should i put off the diff cover and look for shavings and worn gears?
any suggestions or experience with noises like this?
could it be the carrier bearring? (its an ext cab)
truck is a 1991 F-250XL ext cab 7.3L with the ZF-5 trans and i think there 3.55 gears.
Sound like the center support bearing. Your truck has a two piece driveshaft, ( I believe) and the noise you are hearing might be the carrirer (support) bearing going away. Inspect the driveshaft and look for a damaged bearing. If it is making enough noise, and is already in vibration mode, then it should be easy to spot.
