I have read most of the threads regarding the removal of door panels <O
My 99 SD extended cab did not have a system that required rear speakers (I am upgrading). I felt the accordion rubber boot that connects the rear door to the body and it felt like it had a wire in it. Are the rear doors pre-wired for speakers?<O
I know a lot of stuff is included in all of the wiring harnesses even if the truck doesn't get it like adjustable pedals and air bag shutoff switch. I can't say for sure if te speaker wires are there but it wouldn't suprise me if they were. It only takes a couple minutes to remove the rear door panel, just pull it off and take a look.
when i changed my spearker wire i had to pull that boot off to and there where only two wires in it so if you feel wires im pretty sure there for the speakers
Thanks for the timely response, I tried to look in through some of the voids between the door and panel and the speaker grill, but there is still the plastic sheeting behind the grill with an area that can be removed in the sheeting using the perforations that appear speaker size. I will do some fact finding work.
I have another question (I am thinking of replacing the front speakers), I do not have electric window controls, is there at tool to remove the manual window crank?
If your referin to the handle.. You pop the cover off and rotate it out of the way.. There's a torq bolt (if im not mistaken) or an Allen key bolt that you remove and then slide the handle off..
I have purchased a replacement radio because I assumed that the original factory radio failed. The OEM replacement radio does not turn on when you push the 'ON' button. I have inspected the radio fuse for continuity and have determined with a DC tester that there is power at the fuse box with the key on accessory and the engine running.<O</O

Has anyone experience the loss of power to the radio at the fuse box or wiring harness?<O</O
Check all of your fuses, there may be a fuse that is not labeled for the radio that is causing the issue. I had a problem like this a couple months ago. MY power windows and radio quit working but all the fuses for them were fine. It ended up being a fuse for the instrument cluster had burned out (all my instruments and lights still worked though).
I pulled all fuses and visually checked them; I did not see an obvious failure. I will check them all for continuity. <O</O
Per owner’s manual, Fuse/Relay Location 8 is for a Fuse Amp rating of 5A (Mini fuse). It provides power to the radio and the headlamp switch illumination, both illuminations lights work on the new OEM radio and the light switch.<O
I only have Relay 1 - Interior Lamp Relay, and Relay 3 - Horn. Both appear to be working properly.<O</O</O
I will also check the high current fuses and relays box in the engine compartment because there is a fuse at location 29 for the radio and it requires a 20A Maxi fuse. This fuse could be my problem.
I just changed out my speakers and head-unit in my truck. It sounds identical to yours. The manual window handles do have a cover on them, pretty tough to get them off, then in the centre there is a torx bolt (size is T-20) it is fairly deep so some tools dont work. Other than that, the door panel is very easy to remove(only two screws). And if it helps, one of the bolts is in the front part of the arm rest under a cover, and the other one is behind the reflector, they are a 7mm I believe. Another way to get the cover off of the handle is to use a flat blade screw driver and pry it off.
There are two power supplies to the radio, one is located in the inside fuse box that provides power for night illumination (5A mini fuse). The other one is located in the high current fuse box in the engine compartment (20A maxi fuse). The maxi fuse was relocated to the trailer tow electronic brake controller slot which I do not have. I can only surmise that my last visit to the repair shop the engine compartment fuse box was accessed and the fuse was removed and re- placed in the wrong location, why I will have to find out. The good thing is that the OEM radio is working, thanks for your help rwilimo.<O</O
I will try to determine if a tool can be obtained to remove the manual window handles to avoid any undue damage to the plastic parts. I did locate all of the screws to the front panel as describe by sems_89, it will help me in installing the new 3 way speakers.
