i just bought a 78 f150 SC 155" WB 400 motor 2 WD non converter. been to autozone, napa,Oreilly, web sites they only show a muffler that looks like a over sized glass pack. single inlet single outlet. the muffler on mine now is a dual inlet single outlet.anyone know the part numbers for the correct muffler? so i can cross referance it if needed.

the part number you gave me it that a muffler that must be a ford only item? walker, meremontshows nothing for that number. they were the only muffler co. i could think of for now.
The "correct" muffler for your truck would be a single inlet single outlet that looks like a big glasspack. You seem to have some sort of muffler shop special. Your best bet would be to go back to a muffler shop.
Normally a good auto parts store can cross reference the Ford numbers that Numberdummy has in his books. Unfortunately your parts store seems to be deficient. Many of the clerks can't find or figure out anything unless it is in their stupid computers.
whats under mine is two long exh pipes the drivers side pipe turns to the pass side to clear front fuel tank then they go to the muffler two inlets and one exit pipe. the muffler is no longer than a regular muffler my guess its 12-13" long the rear of the muffler ends right at the front of the bed.on a super cab so you can see there long pipes. i can read the part # on the muffler thats on it now. but the inside diamiter of the muffler ia the same as the OD of the exh pipes. looks like they used a hammer ir something because the front of the muffler tubse are both split down the sides.if nothing else there is a whole bunch of room to cut the exh pipes and put on class packs or turbos

The part number I gave you is the correct one for your application, but after reading your post about your muffler being 12-13" long, (LOL) there is no way that your muffler is the original. D8TZ-5230-BV is: 51" -length; 7" in diameter. I know of no Ford muffler that's 12-13" long. Your truck is 30 years old, there have prolly been at least three different replacement mufflers installed in that time.
hahaha well i guess it is not stock then. who ever did it did do a very nice job. well thought out. wish i could post pic' of it. but no camera. thanks to all for your help.
Why not get a dual in dual out muffler and have dual tailpipes? Just a suggestion. If I think of it I will check at work about mufflers that might come dual in single out.
