Whats the max tranny temp we should reach before we need to pull over and let her cool down? Last week mine hit about 235 for a few minutes comming out of the desert on a 12% grade before I could pull over. Should I hurry up and change my fluid?
Assuming you've got your tranny temp sender in the pressure port on the side, just above the lip of the pan (aka "sump temp"), use 225* as the red line.
Around 205-225 should be a good time to pay attention and keep an eye on that gauge, and be ready to pull over and idle (high idle if you can, to help cool it faster) to cool down a bit.
I agree with Rick - doesn't hurt to change the fluid, and would probably be a good idea.
So if I were to get 180-195 arund here pulling a trailer, would that be within safe parameters? Also, I get to around 150 sometimes driving around w/o a load, is that okay?
