I cannot keep coolant in the reservoir. There is apparently no leaks in the reservoir or hoses and I can find no leaks anywhere on the engine or radiator. The engine runs great and idles smoothly. I find no spots on the garage floor. A blown head gasket is the only thing I can think of but how would I determine this is the problem?? This is an F250 with a 7.5 gas.
Thanks to everyone. I just noticed a wet spot on the bottom radiator hose that I replaced about a month ago. I will keep watch on this and see if it leaks anymore. I will then to a compression leak down test on each cylinder if it continues
Have you replaced the radiator cap? It may be that it is allowing coolant to escape while you are driving but not at idle. They are not expensive and it is probably a good idea to change them once in a while anyway. Good luck.
My '95 5.8L used to lose coolant. I never saw a leak. I found the cause when my water pump went out and I replaced it. The bolts on the bottom had rusted through and the resulting slow leak dripped onto the engine and evaporated.
I have 15 90's Ftrucks 14 at worrk and mine (plus all the ones I've owned ). None will keep fluid in reservoir. Most have 35000 miles . My new truck has new motor,rad/cap life time hoses , heater core , water pump (its not seeping ) I even yanked front timing chain cover off to replace seal and redid intake (hey everything was new right) . Pressure checks fine for a whole week end . Its the same as every truck I've had the rad goes down about 1" and stays there for months or top it off and gone in a week. If 14 low mileage trucks don't stay up and Ford garage can't find problems ? . I just check fluid
