I've got an '84 Bronco XLT that I purchased about 3 months ago. I was so excited to have found this web site yesterday. Of course, had I found it a few weeks ago, I wouldn't have replaced my rear window motor, but rather closed my tailgate all the way to allow for the window to be lowered.
After a hard rain, I notice that my floor board on both sides of the truck are wet. Investigation seems to prove that the water is coming from the seal (or lack of the seal) around the top. A friend told me that once these tops are removed, they never seal the same and will leak. Is this true? How can I get it sealed again, or better yet, where can I get a new seal/stripping to secure the top to the truck?
This truck has a Pep Boys Reman'd 302 V8 w/ an Edelbrock 4B Carb on it. I'm new to the Carb world. What is a good resource for tuning these things?
Last thing...With the truck stopped and in Drive, it seems to be misfiring or something because it isn't a smooth run or acceleration from stop. But, in Park or Neutral, it is as smooth as could be. I've checked all the plugs and wires with a timing light while in Park and all seem OK. Would it be different in Drive?
Have you checked your vacuum advance? Theres a vacuum hose on the distributor that connects too the bottom, right, ( sitting in the truck ) of the carb. See if its connected, and if it is, make sure your advance module on your distributor is working properly. Hook a hose on the module, long enough too reach your mouth, and suck on it. Put your tounge over the end of the hose and see if the module is moving or holding? If its moving, its bad. Keep us posted. Rob
When you replace the top after it has been off, coat the seals with white lithium grease. This will stop them from squeaking and help them seal better.
OK, so when I put this little vacuum hose in my mouth to test the suction, is that the same as putting a little mity-mite vacuum tester on it? I did that and it slowly let out, it didn't hold a vacuum. Does this mean the vacuum advance needs to be replaced?
I've been testing my vacuum advance on the Distributor. What conditions show this too be defective? I'm using an inexpensive vacuum tester to test it. When I pump up the vacuum with the tester, it slowly lets the vacuum out. Should it hold it or release it?
