First of all, I am proud and grateful to be a member of this forum.I have learn more about ford trucks in the last 4 days than I have in the last 20 years.
I was wandering if anyone has had any luck with those distributor electronic conversion kits that you can pick up for about $70 at autozone? I am wanting to try one on my 73 F100 4x4 360 2v truck. I am trying to achieve two goals, better mpg and less maintenance. Iwas thinking of trying to go with a factory dura spark but nobody seems to care for those set-ups. if i did go with the kit, what spark plug would work the best?
I just put the Pentronix ingitor 2 system on my 390. It was about $100 through jegs. I like the set up. nice and easy to install gives good performance. I put the flame thrower 2 coil on it too. I mainly chose the conversion to get rid of the points system. I kept the standard autolite plugs.
Thanks, i just got back from the parts store{ where I work} and the prodject is in project mode. I am going to use autolite platinums to conserve spark energy. I remember my dad using one of these kits on a 302 powered ski boat. I cant remember if he had any gain with the conversion. Does anyone know what plug would help get the most from this mod?
Well, can't turn back now.Looks like a good idea so far. I found out that my vac advance is siezed up.That alone could be why I am only getting 6mpg.I also upgraded to an accel Super coil. The autolite plugs [platinmum] have woke up the 360 very well!
I will keep you posted as I keep on this transformation from points to electronic ignition
