Hey there. It sounds like your coolant tempenture sensor. If it were your O2 sensors you would have gotten a code for that. Anyway once I was working on my 302, and I for got to reattach the sensor harness, and it ran just like you mentioned. Try that...If i remember correctly, it should be in the front center of your lower intake maifold, right above the theromostat. Try that the sensor shouldnt be that much.....

oh and by the way, to see if its that sensor before buying....unplug it and see if your truck runs the same. if it runs the same i'd bet that would be your problem. Also check your coolant, how does it look?

It would run rich because all those little sensors that your truck has are all connected to the computer, thus influencing how your truck runs. When the sensor is bad it tells the computer that the coolant is cold like when you start it up first thing in the morning, and so the computer reads this as needing more fuel to warm the engine up, when in fact you've been driving for 20 minutes at that point. Try it and tell me what happens. Oh and your computer is in the driver side kick panel by the emergency brake.

You would think if the temp sensor was way out of wack, the computer would recognize this and give an error code 21, though I would still check this as a possibility. I would also check your fuel pressure. The fuel pressure regulator going bad could cause this too.

OK here are a few things to check. The error code 41 indicates it may have to do with fuel pressure. Do a visual on the following components first. Look at your fuel injectors and see if they are leaking around the O-rings. Check the fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel lines for any leakage or damage. One of these could cause the computer to see it as running lean ( fuel pressure not right)and try to feed it more fuel. This will cause the symptom you are describing. Try this first and let us know what you find. Good Luck

Your injectors should be fed by a steel line or "fuel rail". On the end of this rail should be mounted a can with a vacuum line hooked to it. This is the fuel regulator. Somewhere along this rail too, should be a fitting that looks like a tire valve. This fitting is where you hook your fuel guage. I didn't have the special guage fitting for this valve (schrader valve), so what I did was unscrew the guts out of the valve like you would a tire valve (BE CAREFUL, there could be about 40psi fuel pressure under this valve-hold a rag over it). Then I rigged up my guage with a hose, and slipped the hose over the schrader valve and clamped it with a hose clamp. Then run the truck. I think your truck should be around 40 psi. Then pull the vacuum line off the regulator while the truck is running. You should see the fuel pressure jump up with the vacuum line off. You can also road test the truck by taping the guage to the windshield and carefully closing the hood.
