I was removing the cracked exhaust manifold from the 53 M350 tonite,
first thing to happen was an ear broke off the good manifold as I was loosening off the cross over pipe.
Then things took even a worse turn as the manifold to engine block bolts broke off (in the block of course!).
That`s when I called it a nite.....
Wanna trade a 1/2 case of warm beer for this truck?
Are you able to grabb the stud with any vise grips. If so you can get away with heating the stud and area cherry red. Other wise it is drill a hole and ease out. Not much fun. Just one of those things about working with old trucks.
To get the broken studs out the motor may have to come out.
Taking the manifold off the spare motor the bolts all came out nicely, not a problem.
There is only 6 bolts on the exhaust manifold to the motor, 4 have broken off and now I would need to replace the other side manifold too.
The light at the end of the tunnel is fading fast.....
If I yank out the Flattie then the 360/C6 sitting in one of the buildings would be so tempting....Or to put the 53 cab on the orginal 56 frame with the 56 Y-block power train.
It`s a good thing I have the 56 to work on other wise I might do some really weird/strange....
