Right now I own a 01 f-150. I am going to purchase somewhere between a 2004 and 2006, 250 or 350 in the next month and had a few questions. I was wondering if I should go with the v-10 or the powerstroke. I was questioning how many problems the powerstrokes have compared to the v-10 gas. If anyone has any input it would be very heplfull.
the guys that i have talked to that have the new powersrokes have not had any problems with them and they got tons of power they said. also i would not go back to a gas engine after owning my powerstroke for just over a year now
I don't know about the spelling and grammer, must be a dodge english teacher hangin around. I do know that I love my diesel and I'll not go back to gas. I drive it as a daily driver. I get between 14 and 17 mpg depending on whatever causes that. I totally love my truck.

Both are very good engines! What you should look at is how many miles a year do you plan to put on the truck 15,000 or less and the gasser will be a better choice hands down. 15,000 to 30,000 it's a toss up like I said they are both great engines. But once you get above 30,000 a year the Smoker will kill the gassers in cost efficiency!!
Mobeydick is right, both engines will tow great and are reliable, long lasting but miles used a year determines which is the better deal, diesel engines cost more and are more expensive to maintain. I believe 75% of the SD produced will have diesel engines, so it is hard to find a V10 (I looked). My personal preference is the v10 because my truck gets 10k or less miles a year put on it.

The v10 would be good. The problem you will encounter is finding a V10 SD used. It is hard enough to find one on the lot let alone find one used with options that are acceptable. Diesels are the latest craze around here. The thing is most people around here don't need them, its a case of monkey see monkey do.
I would recamend a psd to anyone. I absolutly love my mine. And i got a 03, f250, 6.0L. Its had is share of bugs (3 injectors, ICP, and a hole boat load a flashes, egr, and some other crap). all the bugs are worked out now though. You can't beat the power and torq. Even with the headakes i still love it..just my 2 cents worth.
I am on my second PSD and would have a hard time going back to gas. I know it isn't fair to compair my old gassers with the 460 or 351 to a V10 when it comes to power though. I just think the entire driving experience is better when pulling with my PSD.
Some guys don't think it is a big deal if they take a little longer to get to the top of the mountain. I am just not one of them.
For the love of all that is holy! These threads make me wanna shove needles into my eyeballs... here's the jist of things... diesel owners say "get a diesel" while gas owners say "get a gasser". The reality of it is, do what's right for you... not what's right for someone else. Basically all stereotypes apply here to both engines. It all comes down to personal preference. I could offer some helpful advice, but it probably wouldn't be objective and the diesel lords would start some sort of riot. So I'm leaving this "as is". Get what you want...

Unfortunately, your always going to have these types of threads for whatever reason, someone wanting to start something, or someone really wants to know. I would actually have something in main superduty forum page that has something that has people check off items that apply to them to help them determine which one is better then having a thread riot. Now bear in mind this couldn't possibly be an all inclusive list, but something that covers the basics that would apply to most everybody that asks this question that really wants to know. Otherwise you'll still have this, like you I'm getting a little tired of it, and lord knows I have indulged in the riot myself every now and again, but I really think we need something to direct someone when this type of question comes about and if there is something that isn't on that list that would apply to them, then they could ask questions about that, so we aren't always covering the same ground.
Go drive both and decide for yourself. Both had problems early on but most were ironed out by the years your looking for.
I have a V10 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. But that's just me. As you can see, their are plenty of guys that swear their diesel's are the greatest things on 4 wheels. It's purely opinion. Both have their place.
And thank you for starting another thread that will probably end in name calling and/or comparison's of yearly incomes or hotness of girlfriends.
P.S. I'm just kidding w/ you. You probably really wanted to know and weren't aware of all the other times we've covered this. Don't take it personally!!
