I have a 2003 ford f-250 superduty diesel 6.0 that has the door open light on the dash on, it also keeps the bed light on and wont shut off, any ideas where I can start, to help find what's causing this please?
Moved from the 6.0 section. You should find a better answer here. In my own opinion you have a switch in the door that activates the light, so I would look for a possible ground issue.
I've seen posts where others have had similar problems. They say it's a sensor in the door lock that's sticking. The fix was plenty of WD-40 to flush the lock and that freed up the sensor.
It may not fix your problem but for the cost, I'd say it's worth a try!
If it's like the Rangers and Explorers, the switch is located inside the door attached to the latch. Ford no longer uses a switch in the door jamb. You have to remove the door panel to access. The switch is about $10. Very common failure.
thanks all Ill try the wd 40 trick and see if it works first. Just wonder which door....
Yep that's the problem. I just fixed mine the other day, but I knew which door it was. It just started to stick and it still took me spraying WD and then slamming (well, a hard shut) about 7 or 8 times, then repeating it again. It took about five cycles of this. It could take you a long time if you don't know which door is the problem, but don't give up. I would guess more than likely it will fix the problem. Make sure to use WD-40, not contact cleaner. IME the CC did not work. It is a good idea to give all the door latches a good squirt of WD every six months or so to keep'em lubed up.
You don't have to 'slam' the door...just 'trip' the latch fingers with a screw driver - same as closing the door...then use the handle to open the latch...spray the WD40...work the latch open and closed several times to try to get the switch inside freed up...the switch is usually not 'bad', just gummed up with accumulated dirt that prevents it from operating properly...works everytime for me.
