I ask...because what do you want to achieve by adding a programmer? Do you have stock OEM sized tires? Going to be adding a lift? Going to be adding an air intake system? Going to add an exhaust system? etc.
How many miles on the 5.4L? Do you have maintenance records? If no, then might want to do a complete tune-up according to FORD recommendations...including tranny...and ALL fluids.
Just trying to find out what you want...so as to give better advice.
Congrats on the NEW SD!

the Edge Evo is the way to go. Check out all of the user comments that we have on the product page here http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/performance-chips/61A2389A0A0.aspx and you'll see the response from it.

the truck has 61,000 miles on it and it was previously owned by my dad so the maintance has been kept up. i have flowmaster 40 series with 3" chrome tips, k&n airfilter, tires are 305 75 16. so the problem is i fell like its under powered so i would like to increase that. with newer trucks im kinda lost one were to get the best power increases. so anyhelp would be greatly apprecated. and if a tuner is not the way to go then please tell me what way is. thanks

Painless has a new series of programers/modules. You might want to take a look at their website... www.painlessperformance.com

Your gears will be either 3.73:1, 4.10:1, or 4.30:1. See what you have and then decide what is the best route. I have 285 tires and 3.73:1 gears and the truck lost a bit going to that tire. Regearing if you have to makes all the difference. Costs about $1500 to regear. A tuner will not fix a truck that is geared too high.
If you have your heart set on a chip or tuner, I would go with a tuner. They are more versatile and much easier to install and unistall. I had a superchips tuner for mine. It did "ok". Not what I was expecting. It basically tuned the tranny and was "so-so" on the engine. On average tuners pick up about 15-25 rwhp. Hardly noticable in a 7000 pound truck.
If want the best you can have, contack troyer performance and have a custom superchips tune loaded into it.
Good Luck
