I recently opened up my insturment panel to change out my altenator gauge glass and found that it wasn't even hooked up and that it was burnt out. so i change out the glass for cosmetic looks and check the bulbs to see if i can get some brighter ones. i hook it all back together and that night i turn the lights on and see that the oil panel on the cluster doesn't light up. take it apart again to see if the bulb burnt out and it worked on the other sockets.
So does anyone know where i can get another gauge, and how do i fix the problem with the light?
The light most likely will be a ground problem. Try to clean the area that the light socket plugs into or follow the grounding wire and clean it there. The newer guage may be a junkyard crawl item or evilbay.
I'm not sure I understand what's going on here. What gauge are you refering to? If you have a light for the oil, you will have one for the alternator. The only true gauges will be for the fuel and temperature.
If you have an alternator guage, you will also have an oil gauge. The engine oil gauge sending unit is one of the causes (the usual one) when the oil gauge doesn't read. The senders leak, so some PO may have yanked off the wire. On a V8, the sender is on the left rear corner of the engine block, or on the oil filter adapter (if you have a oil warning light)
