Additives for cooling system?

Ok...Ive read a little about additives for my cooling system....I understand that it is supposed to stop pinholes in the cylinders which in turn can leak out coolant.....so I went to my local auto parts stores (3 of them including Napa) and asked them about it and what they could sell me and what I got in return was the wrinkled forhead and the question.....What are you talking about?.....Needless to say I walked out empty handed. I just purchased a 1992 F250 4x4 with the 7.3 Diesel w/ 196,000 mi on it, is this something I still need to worry about and if it is can someone help me with a product name and maybe tell me if there is a tester to see if I have the right ratio.....

there isnt any COOLANT in the cylinders, oil yes COOLANT no. If you talking about cylinder wall repair your probably thinking about Engine Restore, Slick 50 or some other type of OIL additive that says it repairs cylinder walls. Never used anything like it but I have seen it and know people who have used it but can't tell you if it did anything not knowing what the cylinders looked like and what they look like now.

Go to any diesel truck repair shop and they will set you up with the right stuff, also the local ford dealership should be able to help you out. Good luck

If this is an initial treatment.... use 2...8 oz bottles in fresh coolant.. 50/50 mix coolant and Distilled water.

IH..... DCA 4

Go to IH ask for the Fleetguard 3-WAY Coolant Test Strips CC2602B contains 1 Test strip. They show A/F freeze point (EG and PG coolants), Nitrite level and Molybdate levels. You will need about 4 over a year period.

FORD.....VC 8 (is DCA 4 bottled for Ford)

Picture...... http://www.dieselpage.com/motorfw16.htm (FW 16 is now VC 8)

oh yah...now I know what you are talking about. Know a guy that works for Royal Purple, sells stuff called Purple Ice or something. Don't use it but he swears by it and my friends dad runs it in his motorcycles and his suburban.
