Thought I would get everyone's opinion on a preferenc on Spark Plugs. I've got a 90 2.9 Ford Ranger and not sure if it much matters. But, any additional advice would be helpful. Thanks everyone.
MOTORCRAFT plugs, NOTHING else. I've heard NGKs are good (works well in the lawn mower anyway), but for the best performance and mileage use what the factory did. The aftermarket plugs are usually hotter or colder making the engine run either rich or lean.
For the record, hotter or colder plugs will not make the engine run rich or lean. Plugs that are too hot will potentially cause detonation which can cause serious engine damage. Plugs that are too cold will foul, wasting gas and causing problems with passing your emissions tests if you have to do that.
I've had good luck with Motorcraft and Autolite in Ford engines. I just put some NGK iridium in my 4.0, so after a while I'll have some feedback on those.
Denso Iridium plugs are supposed to be good but I have no personal experience with them. Motorcraft or Autolite will work since Autolite makes the plugs for Motorcraft anyway.
You could try motorcraft, or maybe motorcraft, then there's allways motorcraft, if all else fails, try a set of motorcraft, if nothing else, try motorcraft hee hee!!!!
Seriously, it's hard to beat motorcraft or autolite in the newer fords, thier a perfect match. I've heard alot of people say that bosh don't take well in a ford. I bought a set of those splitefires once, that was a waste of money. Back in the old days, champion was a good ford plug, but not so anymore from what I hear. MC and autolite do a great job at a decent price, you won't go wrong there. I've been using MC or autolite all my driving life for the most part amd I'm well pleased with thier performance and durability.
I just want to say Thanks for everyones thoughts on this subject and others I've posted on here. For a novice mechanic it's a great spot to bounce q's off of ya'll and it has helped my learning curve. I appreciate all the information and help.
