Good evening, is there anyone out there that can reccomend a manual that is specific to the 1988 Bronco with a 302 EFI. I am searching websites with no luck. I cannot seem to find Bronco specific information.
My Bronco will not start unless I bump the starter relay selenoid. In addition, the rear / passanger window and electric door locks do not work. I have checked the fuses and they are ok. Were should I look next.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
If you're just wanting to do routine maintance I believe the Haynes or Chilton manuals are fine. Any autoparts store can order you one for under $20 bucks.
If you're going to keep your Bronco a while and you're like me, a guy who hates to pay some shop $60 an hour and then double the price on parts, get a factory shop manual. You can ocassionally find them on Ebay used and it should save you some money.
I think you should replace the starter selonoide, they only cost like 12-13 bucks, and for the windows/locks, i should open up the door and check if the motors and lock things are still good, they are not cheap if you need to replace a bunch.
Good Evening, I appreciate all the help. I obtained a manual and troublshooted the ignition switch circut. The starting problem was due to a short in the red-blue ignition wire. I had +12.00 volts at the red-blue wire exiting the ignition when I turned the key to the start position. However, the current was not going all the way to the starter relay. I replaced the red-blue wire and it still did not start. I then replaced the starter relay and it now starts with no problems.
As far as the right door window is concerned. I have +12.00 volts at the master window control switch and the right front window switch. It appears that the window motor or brushes need to be replaced.
I did not have time troublshoot the rear window. When I diagnose the problem I will share the results.
You might consider replacing your primary battery cable, the one that goes from the positive side of the battery to the solenoid. They fill with corrosion. I replaced the solenoid on two different occasions (fixed the problem for a couple of months each time) before somebody on another list informed me that the cable was actually the problem.
Each time I replaced the solenoid I had to flex the battery cable and that was just enough to disturb the corrosion and allow full current to pass. For a while.
