Emission computer

I have an 86 Bronco II (2.9 auto) and want to know if any computer from another vehicle will work specifically a computer from an 86 Econline (302 auto). I have a computer from the van and will use it instead of buying a new one. If not when looking for a computer does it mater if it is in a Bronco II with a manual trans. Any help would be appreciated

Your other computer won't work, and one from a manual trans vehicle will run the engine but your trans gets some input from the computer so it won't work properly either. You have to have a pretty exact match to make everything work right.

Your computer has a calibration number on it. You cannot by a "new" one since only rebuilts are available now. You will have to turn in your old one for a rebuilt with the same calibration number. Expect to pay about $90 or so. Some caution is warranted. Ford computers are pretty reliable compared to the General. In most cases, engine problems are not caused by the computer. Many folks have changed computers only to find out the problem was a bad sensor, loose ground, or vacuum leak. Good Luck
