Old topic, new for me. I finally pulled the dash and removed the GEM module from the back of the fuse box (I hope). Held on by 3 screws, and connects via a multiprong plug. No obvious water/reust, but suupose would not take much micro corrosion to affect. Question is, how to get new module. I have read where some say no programming required, only need vin for features on truck, and that ford is only source for GEM. ANy help would be appreciated. MANY THANKS!!
I think you need to talk to a dealer and see what they have to say. I have never bought a GEM module.
Are you sure you have the GEM module in hand? Ford has so many different years and ways of doing things, but I thought one of the models had the GEM mounted to the firewall, above and to the right of the gas pedal. Yours may be different though.
The GEM is programmable to fit your trucks build.
The dealer has access to an 'as built' data base to down load the info.
For example a 4x4 would be programmed different that a 2w drive.
Reason is the GEM is involved in a lot of functions.
Bronco, what year & style of truck? On most of the super duties, the GEM is attached to the under dash fuse panel. I found one on-line for a heck of a lot cheaper than dealer and yes you do need a specific one for each vehicle. When I got mine, I had the seller program all the options I had such as 4 x 4 and so on.
