Towing question

I'm going to be towing a Bronco that I am buying soon. What is the best way to tow it? Put the transmission in neutral, or put the transfer case in neutral? The trailer will be a UHaul rental you just drive the front tires up on. Should I tow it backwards? Does it matter? The reason I ask is because somebody keeps telling me I should take out the rear drive shaft to keep the clutches in the transmission from being damaged. It's an auto tranny.

You can certainly remove the rear driveshaft, but all that is necessary is to put the transmission and transfer-case both into neutral. The rear differntial will spin, as well as the driveshaft, but the transmission will not turn. The transfer case will turn a little, but not a lot. Speaking from experience, make sure the parking brake is off! This causes premature tire wear.

Also, tow the vehicle with the rear wheels on the ground, and the front wheels on the dolly.

Good luck!

Towing question

I feel that you need to give a little more information prior to receiving a good answer here.
Your new Bronco - what year ? If it is a 92 or pre 92 it will have a BW 13-56 in that case be sure to get the manual shift or with the electric model you will not find a neutral for the transfer case - The electric is a good unit but I prefer the manual. You can change out the electric for a manual - the BW 13-56 does have a pump built in to oil moving parts - I called BW (look them up on their web site) they told me you can tow the 13 56 manual in neutral leaving the transmutation in park. - I would still opt to unbolt the four rear driveshaft bolts, hang up the driveshaft under the rig and tow that way. The front end - I would install the warn premium locking hub kit and flat tow the vehicle with the drive shaft unbolted at the differential. Good luck - hope you have a large tow vehicle

Towing question

What he (92Bronco)said. I tow cars for a living, and I would just drop the driveline if it was me. It only takes a couple of minutes, and it's cheap insurance. Use a bungy to tie it up. Good luck and have fun. Also, I would not tow it with anything less than a 1-ton.

Towing question

I just recently towed mine home from a hard weekend in the Laughlin desert. Use a trailer if at all possible. and definately remove the driveshaft. DON'T use anything less than a 1 Ton. We tried with a half ton 95 Ford long bed and it was hell
