Drive train diagnostic help - please?
Symptom 1:
Single “clunk” on final stop and first acceleration – probably from an under lubed slip yoke. Can't break the bolts loose to find out!?!
Symptom 2:
Leaking rear diff. seal (Pinion seal? Where the drive shaft enters the rear diff.) – replaced at dealership.
Symptom 3:
Very fine metal particles in rear diff. fluid.
Symptom 4:
Scoring or abrasions (very fine, almost like they were machined in) on metal surface next to the ring gear in rear diff. (clutch pack for limited slip diff.?) apparently from the teeth on the “worm gear” (right term? Gear on the end of the drive shaft inside the rear diff.). I have some pictures I'm trying to get from a friend to show what it looks like.
Possible conclusion: Slip yoke is so under lubed that the friction from suspension rise and fall is actually pushing the drive shaft into the rear diff. resulting in damage to the rear pinion seal and the contact between the worm gear and the clutch pack.
What do you all think?
Drop the shaft (make sure your parking brakes are on!!) and lube the yoke and take it from there. I would also replace the diff' fluid if you haven't already. Drive it for 500 miles or so and then have another look-see.

I did replace the diff. lube. Good point about rechecking it in 500 miles.
If the pinion can't be forced deeper into the diff., then what is causing the pinion gear (worm gear?) to rub against the clutch pack body?!?
Thanks for the suggestions, as always you're a big help Monsta.
