While I have a soft spot in my heart for Ford as well as GM...there's absolutely NO way the F-150 is inferior to the Taco and Titan. They probably used the 4.6L against the biggest engines all the competitors had to offer.

Plus, when's the last time they did a "truck" type test? I'm all for which car is fastest, heck, which truck is fastest, but if I'm buying a truck I don't really give a dang which one will go zero to sixty fastest or will run the quarter fastest. I want a balance of power, comfort, usefulness, and looks.

I'll pick that magazine up tonight.

Gee, this mag came out in late Feb or early Mar.... They had a 5.4. Read the test. One thing that they don't find out in a test like this is what it's like to live with the truck. Not many rate a Dodge over a Ford after owning them for a while.

Read it and weep, boys! Our Ford did indeed come out last in acceleration and last in braking distance. We love our trucks, so what the hell you gonna do about this embarrassing showing, FORD?

I had a 2004 Ram (Yes, with the Hemi) and now my 2006 F-150. The Ford beats the Ram for rear leg room, ride and NVH. The Ram was a good truck to me and I never had any problems out of it. However, I still don't think that the others are better than the Ford. They may be better in one area over another, however, it comes down to what YOU need out of YOUR truck. I considered the redneck limo (Dodge MegaCab) but felt it was too long and the dealers were too proud of them and wouldn't budge on price. Plus my wife comes from a Ford family as well as my brother and father have F-150's. Given that MT's TOY is the Chevy, it would almost be a proverbial slap in the magazine's face for another "major" magazine to name it otherwise. It all comes down to marketing dollars and personal opinion.

Overall, I am happy with my decision and that is all that matters to me.

Oh yeah. Almost forgot to mention. What the heck is a Taco doing in the comparison? It isn't even in the same class...

I want to know how they can put the 150 last when everyone of them other trucks is just a TRY at copying the first and only real truck? You look at every thing the others did and it is just a copy of the 150!

All of them are "real" trucks, whether you want to accept that or not. They all have their place. Right now perhaps Ford should focus on matching up with the competion, because some random guy posting on an Internet message board saying that Ford has the "first and only real truck" doesn't hold a candle in the real world to the performance laid down by it's competitors.

most magazines only compare new body, or significant revision vehicles when they have tests. to my knowlegde, the Chevy and Yota are the only 2 who have revamped themselves. Dodge, Ford, and Nissan are still the same as 2-3 years ago.

whas this a crew-cab shoot-out, or what?

This article is on their website...doesn't really look like an apples/apples comparison. They give the chebby props b/c it has 20 inch wheels. The F150 can have 20s. They also tested the Yota with the new 380hp/400 lb-ft torque. With that option the tundra price goes waaay up. I love my F150 and no second rate editorial is going to change that. Of note, they also have a test of the '06 SuperCrew on their site and give it glowing reviews. For some reason the traits they loved in '06 no longer hold true in '07.

car and driver ......i don't think it's the best comparison....

first off....i'd put my truck up against a nissan titan any day of the week when it's doing TRUCK work....the chevy is nice....it's a new style thats why it won.....ford won top 5 last 3 years or something....yet the 07 is the same truck and they rate it bad....hmmmmm....

dodge just sucks.....hate the inside...loud.....super crappy mpg, noisey inside....

toyota is new....makes good HP but it's still very new and bound to have problems.....prolly same with the chevy....

now, the ford has been around for a while....tried and proven platform....maybe a little down on HP but it will handle the load better than any of the others will...i know that for a fact.....seen it first hand....put it this way...you give the F-150 another 50 hp and 40 ft lbs it wins hands down and that will happen....

At what point will horsepower and performance be beaten down by high gas prices?

Thumbs up

Well, the way I look at it...I just don't care! They look at things from a very quantitative point of view, and looking at the numbers the F150 comes up a bit short.

BUT, look at the rest of the truck they DON'T mention. They don't mention that the 5.4 has more low end torque than most any of the competition. They also don't mention how the F150 has the strongest frame of all of them. They also don't mention that the Screw comes with the optional 6.5 foot bed, which they slam it for. They don't mention how they handle under heavy loads near max GVWR. They seem to mention only numbers, which is one way to do it, but it's nowhere near the complete story.

Car and Driver is primarily a car magazine. They don't seem to do as good of a job comparing trucks as they do cars.

I bought my '07 Screw AFTER I read that article for the first time, and I don't regret it one little bit. I love my truck, and if I did it all over again, I'd STILL buy the Ford. (gotta love Ford Credit 0% loans! )

Don't bash the magazine, as they do a great job on most things they do. They just didn't seem to include things that our trucks do well, so it came up a bit short. Oh well...
