I've been called a liar
I want everyone to post their fuel mileage and what combo you have so I can link to this thread.
It seems that this guy (2004 Duramax owner) has a two buddys that own V-10 Excursions. They both claim 11 mpg on the highway.
I've got a 2004 XLT Supercab, 4X4, auto with 3.73 gears. I get 12-13 around town and 14.5-15.5 on the highway and I have seen 16.1.
I have an 04' F250 SD SC SB 6.8l AOD 3:73 LS and 9-15mpg is the range. Problem is where I live there and the places I go there is not alot of flat highway like out west so the hills reflect on my mpg. I do alot of mixed driving around town and some highway and 11-12mpg is about what I see.
It seems there are too many variables to generalize. There's a good chance you're both right.
BTW, I regretably sold my F350 at 56,000 miles (when I found out it was made in Mexico), but am planing to buy a new, made in America, F350 4x4 CC SRW Long Box manual tranny, manual transfer case with V-10 this summer when, hopefully, Ford will offer some deep discounts or rebates.

I get a little over 11 when on the highway. I don't have much highway time unloaded so I don't know what the true mileage could be.

The fact that a big air dam heavy pig like an V10 powered Excursion getting 11 MPG is a wonderful feat of engineering. And the truth to the 11MPG has a lot to do with tires that do not have a lot of air in them to maximize fuel efficiency. It is a luxury comfort SUV and the owners prefer to have a softer ride.
5400 pound 3/4 ton trucks a few years back with the BB V8 were only averaging 9 to 11 MPG empty.
Our 1999 to present trucks and giant SUVs weigh about a ton (2000 pounds!) more empty, and have smaller engines that get better fuel efficiency.

i-pad) dud who is giving you grief, is still screwing around with a BB push rod V8 old skool motor that NEVER will get very good MPG figures no matter how much he loves Chevy medium duty products that usually cost more to buy and maintain....The fellow calling you a liar is an idiot IMO
All Idiots...even family members, are to be ignored.... what do they expect?
Are you supposed to immediately sell your more capable truck and spend MORE money on a POS Chevy or Dodge product??...get real.
F250 F350 Ford Super-Duty trucks are a bargain even if they only got 9.3 MPG considering all they can haul and tow and how reliable they are on average.
Link to this .... I don't mind a few folks getting all red with anger over the truth
Tell the bozo that you have a friend (me) who can put 5200 pounds of sand in the bed and drive 70MPH on the freeway all the way home and still get 9.4 MPG... ask him if his stock truck will even hold 5200 pounds of anything in the bed...
You might mention that my combination can get up to 14~15 MPG on the highway if I pay attention... but the BSEG gets in the way and about 12~13 MPG is the cost of the slight dribble of drool at the corners....
12.6mpg @ 3.00 a gallon = .24 per mile
(390.6 miles to a 31g tank)
($93.74 to fill)
16mpg @ 3.00 a gallon = .19 per mile
(496 miles to a 31g tank)
Better mileage nets you a savings at fill-up time of $5.30. Fill up three times a month for a savings of almost $16 a month.
Makes you wonder about all those "Improving Mileage in my V10" threads.
More money is being spent each month on the internet to ask the question than is saved once the answer is given.
