1966 F250 Wheels

My truck came with these ugly Dodge Ram wheels on it. I'm trying to find a set of solid steel wheels so I can have them powdercoated. I'll probably be shot for asking this but does anybody know if a set of factory wheels from a 96 Chevy 3/4 ton truck will work? I know they are the same bolt pattern but I do not know the width.

Original 1966 F250 wheel size & bolt pattern: 16 x 5.5 / 6.50 bolt circle / 8 lugs

Haven't a klew what chevrolet uses.

Because of the outline of the rear wheel cutout, a much wider wheel will cause the tire to rub on the inner edge of the Styleside quarter panel (bed side). A Flareside rear fender has a larger wheel cutout.

Not sure, but I think the center hole on chevies are smaller, but I do believe they have the same 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern.

My '66 F250 also came with hideous wheels, rusty white spoke 16.5's.

I bought a set of later-year Ford 16" steel wheels from an E-250 van. I'm sure it's been discussed here, but there are many years after '66 where the stock steel F250 wheel will fit your '66. I got my (4) for like $100 on Ebay.

Well I found a set of 16.5s from a 1953 F-250. I'm going to see if they fit first. I'd like to get them powdercoated white. I just do not know where to get tires. I've seen big offroading tires in that diameter but I just want more of an all season. Anybody run 16.5s with similar tires?

Tires shouldn't be a problem. 8 lug 6.50 16" used from 1948 thru 1997. Ford went to metric wheels in 1999.

Project 40: I would steer clear of 16.5's if you're looking for all-season and general easy-to-find-and-affordable tires. Somebody correct me if I'm talking out of my a__, but 16.5's are designed for lower-profile, HEAVY load applications. You see those things on delivery and cargo trucks. You can find tires, but the choices might be limited.

16's are really easy to find because, as ND mentioned, they were used for MANY years.

Guys you are on a right path, the 16.5 wheels were introduced to give a wider profile tire, all of the 16s were pretty skinny. I had them on a 79 E250, and remember well the first set of radials that I bought for the truck. The nylon tires that came on the truck flat spotted when parked over night, and you had to drive the bump bump bump out every morning. I could only get 22-23,000 miles out of a set of tires, and the radials went 65,000.

My thought is that the 16 in wheel was redeemed and resized because of it's popularity. From all that I have read the later 16in is a better wheel choice.

1966 F250 16inche hubcaps

Hi Guys
I'm writing all the way from Australia I have a 1966 f250 camper special and I'm looking for some nice chrome hubcaps to suit my 16inche wheels, we are extremely limited over here so the States is my only option. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a set sent over?

Welcome to FTE

1961/66 F250's, some 1967/68 F250's used "innie" wheels, so called because the hubcaps snap onto tabs located on the inside of the wheel center section.

These hubcaps are almost impossible to find in the US

However, if someone installed "outie" wheels (so called because the hubcaps snap onto tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section, you can use F250/350 hubcaps from 1967 thru 1997.

That's up to you. I wouldn't because I like things "original."

Probably. The 16" outie wheels were installed on some 1967/68 F250/350, 1969/96 F250/350, 1997 F250 H/D & F350 // 1969/74 E300 / 1975/2013 E250/350.

F250/350's went to metric wheels in 1999 (there is no 1998), but no Econoline of any year has metric wheels.
