Does this go in the rear differential where the current VSS is? This is on a '94 Ranger. How is it programmed for the different gear ratios? What do I do about the stock speedometer cable gear in the tranny? Just disconnect and plug the hole? Does the stock VSS get stuck in the back of it? That's the feeling I get.
Just trying to get a feel for this before I buy a speedometer and have no way to use it.
Bah I love it when you guys make me feel dumb like that.
Ok new question then. My speedo bounces around at low speeds. Since the electronic speedo would go right in place of the stock drive gear for the cable, will the electronic one bounce around as well?
A speedo bouncing around is usually caused by a bad cable, lack of cable lube, or dirt in the speedo head. Replacing or lubricating the cable is not difficult. Check with the guys in the Ranger forum.
Oh ok...well no the speedometer itself has gone bad, but the bouncing was before that. That's good news however.
Ok just one more question! From the Autometer site:

Pass-thru drive for cruise control? I thought the cruise control got it's signal from the VSS on the rear diff. I don't see how the mechanical gauge cable could in any way effect the digital cruise control. Did Autometer just list it incorrectly, or am I missing something?
The sensor on the rear end in that truck is for ABS only. The cruise gets it's signal off where the cable connects into the tranny.
The calibration is automatically set up once it is installed, basically by pushing a button, driving two miles, then pushing the button again.
