'05 Ford F-350 ... I believe my problem may be a door switch on the drivers door (where-ever it is hidden at).
It all started where I could not lock the doors with the switch on the drivers door. It would lock, then unlock a couple seconds later, just like if you had left the key in the ignition. You would have to lick the door with the remote switch once you got out of the truck. (You could lock the door with the switch on the door if you were sitting in the truck, and the drivers door was closed, just not with the door in the open position)
After 2 - 3 weeks of that, it got to the point that when you shut the truck off and opened the door, the door chime would start chiming as if you had left the key in the ignition. It only works properly maybe 10% of the time. The problem occurs the other 90% of the time.
Of course ... with the great warranty plans with the auto makers standard warranty ... which hasn't been updated in way, way to many years ... it has a 3 year/ 36K mike warranty. Problem is ... my truck has 54K on it. Who only drives 12K a year any more?
Any ideas ... or suggestions? Heck ... I can't even see a switch anywhere, like you could in cars of years past.
I have a very similar problem. I disabled my door chime by cutting the black wire with the pink stripe. Now when I get out and push the door lock button, all the doors lock and then the driver door unlocks after about two seconds. I would like it to not do that. But I dont want to disable it to were the remote entry and other unlock buttons dont unlock it. I just want to disable the auto-unlock feature only. By the way why did FMC decide to make pickups so dad-gum computerized and sensitive. Whats wrong with keeping it simple like all the old pickups? They did not have all these foolish problems.
caprock, with the door chime wire cut, that is how it is going to act, I don't think there is a way around it. You can either lock the door by pushing down the black plunger on the windowframe, or get out and lock it with your remote or by pressing the 7-8 9-0 keys on the keypad.
Dave, I am not quite sure about your problem? Did you try to disable the key in ignition chime some way? If so did you make sure the wire or clip were taped up and tied up somewhere so it can't ground out? If you haven't you may want to take the bottom cover off the steering wheel and make sure the wiring harness is not getting chaffed or the plug getting pulled apart.
Beerstalker, I have found out something interesting. I cut the key chime wire which is just to the right of the fuse box, just above the grey plastic plug that has all the wire going into it from the steering wheel. The part of the wire coming down from the steering wheel is now basically dead and does nothing. However the other piece of that wire that goes into the plug and out the other side can be grounded out and the chime comes on and the pickup thinks the key is in the ignition. Once you ground the wire out and make it ding and then unground it. You can hit the lock button on the door and all four doors lock and even the drivers door lock stays down on the first attempt. But once you turn the ignition key to start the pickup and then turn the ignition back off, what ever controls the door locks is reset and the problem starts all over again. Press the door lock button, they all go down and then the driver door lock comes back up. Do you think there is a way to fool the lock everytime without some sophisticated electrical trickery?
About the only way I could think of is to run a relay off the delayed accessory power so when the truck is on, the wire is grounded, but when you open the door and the delayed accessory circuit shuts off, the relay opens and the wire is no longer grounded. That should work and would be fairly simple, but to me it's just as easy to use my remote, as I usually have my keys in my hand hit the button as I put them in my pocket after I get out of the truck.
