Is it a trailing arm?

What is this piece called? there is a brace of some sort that starts where the bottom of the front shock bolts on. It goes back about 24 inches where it attaches to the frame with a large rubber grommet and big nut. The one on the drivers side clunks sometimes going over bumps and it has slipped down about 2 inches where the nut attaches the brace to the frame. Does it just need to be tightened?

Thanks.

If your talking about the arm that attaches to the front axel & connects to the frame about 2' back? It's called a Radius arm.

No sir that's not it. The part that extends toward the back is round and heavy duty. it is threaded on the end and goes through a part of the frame, i believe and has a large rubber bushing held on by a big washer and a nut. I was unable to tighten the nut. In the phote, the end opposite the 5 would have to have a threaded portion to go through the frame and receive the nut. I am offshore now but when I get home I will take a photo.

Thanks for the response.

Sorry, I figured it showed you because i filled that in on one of the tabs. How do I cause the screen to show my information like many of the other writers?

I have a 1995 F150 ext. cab with 5.8W. I got this a few months ago and sold my 1990 ext. cab w/5.0. What a difference an engine can make.

Try this site, & look at the diagram. The pic I posted has another piece that is shown, # 13 is the end of the pic?

Yep you found the part Bear1. from the looks of the diagram, for the threaded end of the radius arm to have dropped down a little bit it looks like the hole in part #14 may have been wallered out some to allow this to happen. This is getting more and more complicated. I am going to get an impact wrench and loosen the not, move the threaded end of the arm up a little bit to be back in the same position as the passenger side arm, and tighten it back down. If it does not stay in position, I guess I will have to buy part #14. Thanks for your help, at least now I will call the part by it's proper name.

You should be able to just install a new set of *radius arm bushings* and be done with it. The reason the arm is drooping is the pilot portion of the forward 1/2 of the bush is worn off. No big deal if it's only been driven like that for a lil' while.

#14 is the mounting bracket. If it's wallered out that bad, you may have to replace it? It takes quite a beating as it holds the axel in place & it will make your steering wander if it's loose.
