I have a 2005 Ford F-250 Crew Cab 8ft 6.0 PSD. I have done some light modding with bigger tires/rims, fender flares and the superchip max tuner. I am looking for an exhaust sytem either 4 or 5 inch tubing and want something stainless steel since up here in CT the weather has comletly rusted the muffler. I am not sure on the laws in CT and if i need to keep the cat or muffler but am looking at either a cat or turbo back. Performance gains are not needed but more of a nice deep sound on heavy acceleration but not much louder than stock over 65. Anyone have any experience on what sounds the deepest but still quiet on the highway, price not a big factor and not sure about what will get me the best sound or what manufactures.
I prefer the single side exit but any experience is much apreciated.
Scroll down a little further on th emain forum page and ask this in the 6.0L forum and you will probably get a few more responses. One of the more popular brands for the diesel is MBRP. They have single or dual exit, and offer it in Aluminum, 409 stainless, and 304 stainless. I read all of the good reviews in the 6.0L forum and decided to get the turbo back, 304 stainless single exit system. They also offer a Cat delete pipe that simply bolts in if you decided you want to get rid of the cat, but may need to put it back in for service or smog checks. It was not cheap, but it has a lifetime garauntee. I bought mine from DPPI a sponsor here.
I just had a 4" stainless MBRP exhaust put on my 06 F250 with 6.0L. I had it installed from the cat back without the muffler. It sounds good but not overbearing. I wanted the cat on so I wouldn't have problems with emissions warranty, etc. A WORD OF ADVICE from my experience.......... Question the people that are installing it first, if they plan on doing any type of WELDING on the stainless exhaust and/ or tips. Find out if they have ever welded or have any experience with stainless. They need to TIG weld it with stainless rod, or use stainless wire in their wire welder. You should not use a regular mig welder with steel wire. Wherever they weld with steel, you will have spatter and RUST... Thus defeating the whole purpose of having stainless steel pipe. I am speaking from experience... two unnamed persons installing mine did what I have written. I paid someone else to grind out their mess and weld it the way it should have been done from the start. I hope this helps someone down the road, to save them time, money and their exhaust.
I just installed a side exit in front of the rear wheel yesterday, at first I did it straight piped, stainless tip comes out just behind the end of the chrome steps,,Let me tell you,,that 6.0 Barks with the side exit, stock downpipe 3",,to 3,5 " from Bell/Socket joint back.
I felt it was to loud though,,I could just see pulling a trailer through towns, or on trips,, and so on,,so I put the cat back on, and did the side exit,,tones it down just a bit,,but she still barks when your on it,,Thanks to 3.5" stainless ban clamps, can be removed and adjusted as needed.
The worst part was removing the stock muffler and tailpipe in one peice, loosen the clamps between muff and cat, pull cat off, with truck rear on jackstands, had to jack up from the rear hitch to raise the suspension about 1.5" is all it took to get tailpipe over rearend. Ofcoarse I could of cut the tailpipe,,but did'nt want too !
