Trade it in for a new Flex-Fuel, if one is available...
Otherwise, you have issues with incompatible fuel system materials and a fuel delivery system that, in stock form, is inadequate to deliver sufficent corn-squeezins to properly run the engine.
Mixture concerns can be addresses by aftermarket injector pulse stretcher circuits, higher flow rate injectors, or custom PCM calibrations.
what would need to be done to my 99 expedition so i can use this fuel thanks
The shop that did my dyno and chip tuning does this. They change the injectors and put in a switchable chip so you can run on regular gas or
E85 with a flip of the switch. They claim to have figured out the tuning needed to make this work. They describe how they do this on their website www.hitechmotorsport.com
Changing engine parameters and fuel delivery is not a big problem to overcome. The problem is replacing all the alcohol incompatible materials within the engine and fuel system. Ethanol eats through rubber and certain plastics, albeit somewhat slowly. So, if your car has gaskets or seals made with an incompatible material...
My F150 is a flex fuel vehicle. We just got a new gas station around the corner from my house that has E85. I gave it a try because it is $.30 cheaper than unleaded. Unfortunately, E85 gas mileage is not so good. Normally my Screw goes ~325 miles on a tank. I'll be lucky to get 225 on the E85.
Basically you'll need higher flow injectors, and a sensor to determine the E85 content in the fuel. Also any non-alcohol compatible components need to be replaced.
As of right now, there are no EPA approved conversion kits available for this, as it's not cost-effective to do so, therefore no one is willing to invest in all the testing, etc, for this type of conversion.
Yes there are some tuning places that can make some modifications as C_Hohensee mentioned... but not many... like I said.. it's not real profitable right now except for very niche markets.. so it's not going to be commonplace for a long long time.
