Question steering gear rebuild

I have a 93 f-150 2wd. The pitman arm seal is leaking. Can I take the pitman arm off, mark the shaft and gear case, remove sector shaft, replace seals and spacers, reinstall sector shaft with marks lined up and replace pitman arm? It looks like there is room to do this while gear is still in truck. Tried this in the steering forum but didn't get any reply.

After removing the pitman arm, remove the snap ring that holds the seals in. No need to remove the sector itself. Place a large pan under the gear box.....make sure the reservoir has oil in it...fire up the motor....and as you turn the steerwheel..........the pressure usually forces the seals out of the bore.

When doing this can you replace a shim/washer/bearing/bushing to eliminate side to side wobble of the sector shaft at the pitman arm?

How is the lower end of the sector stabilized?
