OK, having exhausted my current resources i turn to you. My truck will start and idle fine but then after it warms up and drops the revs to standard idle level it get's real testy. When you blip the throttle it will sputter before revving up. Sometimes it will go ahead and die...that's an even bigger problem. If it dies the only way to start it is to hold the throttle completely open and keep the key turned. Eventually it will fire and begin the process of cleaning out the cylinders and finally getting them all firing and running. During this time it spews blackish smoke and just runs like crap. I searched the forum for instructions to the "Paperclip Trick" but couldn't find them. I know they're here but i'm pooped and would like you to just reiterate for me. I'd love to get this truck running so i've got something reliable again to drive.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Also...what do you reccomend for rejuvinating an older truck that has sat for a few years. I've done some oil treatments and Seafoam..I'll be installing a lift-kit soon (suspension is shot) Any major avoidances as far as online parts buying? I'd like to stroke it perhaps...more power is always welcome. When i get my car back from the body shop the truck will be released of dailydriver duty again and put back on fun-offroad-toy duty.
Have you done a tune-up? Could be plugs/wires/cap/rotor causing your problem if you haven't and it's been sitting a long while....wires especially.
Other threads here talk about IAC and TPS for these types of issues. Tell us more about what you have done to it.
No idea what the "paperclip trick" is....I'll be waiting to see that myownself.....lol
Good Luck
Well they scanned it at O'Reillys and it failed to reply several times then flashed cyl 2 misfire really quick then went back to failure to reply... I replaced my sparkplug wires and that did seem to help the stuttering problem but i'm still having a severe loading up problem. It's as if the injectors are "sticking open" as a friend put it. The truck refuses to start unless the pedal is pressed past the carpet then there's an enormous cloud of brownish black smoke until it clears out and revs nicely. Then on with the studdering and what-not... Could the injectors be failing to shut off? Having the pedal pounded would allow enough air in to compensate for all that fuel possibly correct? i see some really cheap injectors on ebay right now. Would any 5.0 injector work?
Putting the pedal to the floor on an EFI engine tells the computer to turn the injectors off as in a flooded situation. You may want to look at the FPR(fuel pressure regulator). Do a search as I'm not too familiar with testing. You really need to pull the codes. That will point you in the right direction. I've heard a lot of people talk about the chain stores not being able to pull codes with their scanners. The (paperclip) trick is really pretty easy. Give it a try. It's free.
well The fuel pressure regulator ..i was told to check it by a mechanic. He said to take the line off and if it sprays fuel then it's kaput. It does not so he said it was fine. Further than that...i had already purchased one to swap it but that third screw was a bugger. How the hell do you get at it? and as far as the injectors...it's DEFINATELY not shutting them down. The stink of gasoline can be smelled very strong after the beast starts up. I"ll try the paperclip trick soon . . .
