Easiest way to pull engine with cherry picker..

Guys I have a lifted 92 F-150 that has a 3 inch body lift on the truck and well I getting ready to pull the old block out and put the new block in with a cherry picker. What is the best way to be sure I will have no clearance issues with the cherry picker? I have been told that taking the front tires off of the truck and putting the front end on jack stands should work fine? I am trying to avoid taking the whole front clip off that's all! The motor is a 302EFI, that might help some ;-)

I've heard of people airing down the front tires to get the front to drop some. I really would think hard about taking off the front clip, though. I can't begin to describe how much easier that makes things, even on a two wheel drive truck.

Up ^^^^^^^ I believe is the preferred way

Have used the air-down method and have set the front end on concrete blocks, both work well. if you just have a body lift and don't have huge tires, you may be able to get it without this. mine pulled a motor from a 78 1/2 ton with 33's and 3" front spring lift, w/o blocking. If you're doing this indoors, watch out for the ceiling!

i find unbolting everything first is the easiest way.

front clip off sounds like a lot of work but may be worth it.

I removed the front clip and it worked great -both out and in. It also allowed me to clean up the frame, etc. I didn't think I would have enough lift to get engine and trans out over the core support with my cherry picker even with the wheels off and concrete blocks under the a-frames.

I have an hd picker I use and completely stretched out ( not the safest thing wants to raise back of lift) . I just clear the core on an F350 4x4 ( I air down the tires) . Give it a try you can always set it back down in truck if have problem. The problem with removing or airing down tires (even if you unbolt everything first )is if you have to get under truck it will be hard to reach things. Good luck
