i was reading in the old posts and i saw one that said you could use the rockers off a 454
other than changing the rocker stud what else would i have to do to use them
I was thinking it was rockers from a chevy I6. Maybe there is more than one kind that works. I think I read something in the performance post at the top of the Inline six forum.
the rockers from the chevy inline six (230, 250, 292) will work as a bolt in if they have the 3/8th" studs. the BBC have a 7/16th" stud, so you would need new studs installed. it would be a good idea to consider having screw in studs put in in place of the stock pressed in style to decrease the odds of the studs pulling out....
i put a 7/16" stud in a spare head and bolted it down to a spare block and the 454 rocker opens the valve the exact same amount as the ford rocker
oh well maby i will just find some chev six rockers
which rockers were you using? they made multiple ratios.
you just have an extra head laying around that is already machined for screw in studs? may i inquire as to why? PM me if you're looking to offload one of the heads, i'm in the market, especially for a drilled and threaded head....
300?!?! is that for roller, or just stock stamped pieces? rollers are pricey, but you can order rollers off evil-bay for way less than that... even with shipping to the great white north....
$300 is for stock chev six rockers kinda a little to much i just thought that the 454 ones could be used because i have seen guys use roller rockers for a 454 on there sixes
if you really feel like downing gramp's picker just for 30 bucks or so worth of parts....
the extended ratio rockers act like a bigger, longer cam, giving more lift and longer duration without doing a cam swap. if you add roller, you free up a few more ponies in the process. they should fit so long as they have the 3/8th" studs, the 292 may have had the 7/16th" studs, i'm not certain, as i'm not a bowtie guy...
k i got them off....it was goin to the scrap yard anyway.....i compared them to a ford 300 6 rocker and the stud holes in the chevy rockers and they look the same size and all but the hardware is different...do i use the ford hardware or do i just have the wrong size rockers?
what hardware? are you referring to the lock nuts? IMHO if you're putting on the new rockers, splurge for a new set of lock nuts, they're not that expensive.
