My girlfriend has a 2006 Focus she bought new just over a year ago. Tonight we were leaving the store when we started it up, and tried to turn on the rear defroster to melt the snow on the rear window. The car dinged at me, flashed the hazards once, and did not engage the defroster.
Then, until I put the car into gear, every button I pushed caused the same problem. They all worked, but the flashers flashed once for every button push, and the car dinged. Every switch we touched caused this to happen, and then it suddenly stopped doing it after we started driving off.
I don't know if you're going crazy, but unless it's got a ton of miles on it, an '06 should still be under warranty....
I don't know much about Foci, but I would guess there's a GEM (general electric module) or some sort of "body computer" that would run all the functions you mention. If it got screwed up some how, it could cause all sorts of wacky stuff to happen.
