I just put a new power steering pump into my 1989 f 150 and i have the special puller to take off the pully but since its pressed on i cant figure out how to put it back on does anyone have any ideas?
The puller set should also include a mechanism to press the pulley back on. You thread the pusher thing on the threaded bolt, then thread that long bolt into the pump shaft. Then hold the bolt head while turning the pusher thing which pushes the pulley onto the shaft. I know that is a vague description, but if you have the tool set, you should be able to figure it out. I borrowed the set from the local AutoZone for free when I swapped pumps on my truck. Don't put any axial force on the pump shaft (i.e. a standard press) because you will damage the pump internals.
Maybe not hijacked but I need more info on this thread!
I'm rebuilding my road truck's Power Steering.
Never pulled and pressed a pulley before.
I know, I know, but all these years and I've never done it, usually just swap pumps.
But I've decided to fix the pump on it so...
Is there a good source on here, that sponsors these forums, where I can buy a professional grade puller/re-presser for the Ford pulleys?
I only need something that will work from the mid 1960s thru to the mid 1980s.
there is a special tool that you use to put i back on and a different one to take it off. you can borrow them at any good parts store or take the pump to a garage and have them change the pulleys.
