take it to your local part store and have them test the alt under a load with their
tester, most places will check it for free, infact never heard of anyone charging
to test.
It does'nt have to be a part store, most auto places should be able to perform the test.

Is it possible that there is a problem with the wire to guage? how would i check it? could that whole wire be replaced if i put another guage in?

I think you are talking about the voltmeter, the power to the voltmeter comes from the fuse block and has nothing to do with the charging.

if i followed the diagrams properly it shows the wire coming off one of the wires to plug at alt. running to guage.

i found a 95 5.0 and got the measurements today, it looks as if they replaced my crank pulley with a 5". The 95 crank pulley is about 7". Ordered one today, this should make a big difference, thanks. I will keep you posted.
