So after cleaning my old girl up today, I climbed under to get some things done and noticed that the rear leaf spring hangers have rusted pretty bad. I need to get some, and have checked the local autozone, napa, junkyards, with NONE to be found. Someone out there has to know where to get them OTHER than the stealership. Hook a guy up with some info!!!!!
These are the actual brackets that bolt to the frame. The frame isnt rusted, just the bracket. The shackle is fine too. Dont know what the deal with that is....
on etip when you put the new ones in is drill a drain hole in the area that has rusted out. this will allow the dirt and water to drain and not allow it to rust. I got ready to do my bronco tank on my previous truck and found my spring hangers rusted out too. not a good feeling when you see how thin they had gotten.
yeah the azzholes at the stealership just tick me off though. I would rather pay someone else a hundred bucks if they only cost 50 there. I just had a bad trip to the stealership about 2 months ago for a key fob, and will NEVER go back.
thnaks guys, going to check the stealership I guess just to see how much they are, then I will buy either from there or the ones from stengel bros since they are 20 bucks from there. Thanks a ton though guys.
The ones from stengel bros did not have the same bolt patteren as what the factory spring shcakles did. I ended up getting them from the stealership instead. Wasnt awful bad to replace them, took a heavy grinder, ground the rivot heads off, popped off the old hanger, beat the rivots thru then rebolted. Now for the surprise shocker. You realize that the FACTORY now drills holes in the shackle where it holds water? Does anyone think that its weird that they would do that, but yet no recall? Thats kind of crappy as I would think that someone could get seriously hurt. After all, these trucks were meant for he heavy loads, and I would think that the heavy load would be quite a concern to ford. Anywho, its fixed, has been for a couple days, but I havent had time to update. I suggest that everyone check theirs, as mine looked fine, but a few taps from a hamer quickly showed me otherwise. Glad Chad told me about this problem and that i did check it, I might have been one of those guys you read about on here that got in an accident from this.... Whew.....
