I have a 95 year model. How do I determine if it has the factory keyless entry system already on it. I was thinking of buying an alarm but if it already has that then I might as well just get the key fobs.
You can try reprogramming the FOBS. What you do is have all the fobs on hand to program, get into the vehicle and close the door. Put the key into the ignition and turn the key on then off 5 times (don't start the vehicle), leaving the key in the on position the last time. If you have done this correctly, the door locks will lock and unlock quickly. Then immediately press one of the buttons on one fob. The door locks will then lock and unlock quickly again. Press a button on the other fob and repeat until all fobs are programmed. Turn the ignition off and the fobs should now work. If not, maybe you have a dead battery in a fob or there is something else wrong with the system.
I copied this from another forumn, located on this board. If this doesn't work for you do a search in the different forumns. Everything you want to know, won't always be located in the Bronco forumn.
8996EBBroncos,
That method only works on the newer Ford vehicles. On the '96 and older Ford Trucks (including the Bronco), you must locate the 2-pin connector under the dash and jump the wires with the ignition on. The door locks will then lock/unlock to indicate you are in programming mode. Then press a key on a fob and that remote is then programmed. Continue with all fobs until all are programmed.
To determine if you have the keyless entry or dealer installed alarm system, here are the details.
Look under the dash along the floorboard on the driver's side. If you have a dealer installed alarm, the module will be to the left of where the clutch is/would be on the backside of the aluminum support.
The dealer installed alarm system has a LED on the dash in the spot to the left of the 4X4 button, and a push switch somewhere on the lower left panel where the hood release is.
The factory keyless entry module is located on the right side under the instrument panel, and has two connectors going to it. It also has an interface with the antenna on the radio, and the program connector nearby. This one can be difficult to locate.
One other method to determine if you have the factory keyless entry/alarm system would be to close and lock all doors. If you lift the outside handle of either front door, the lights inside should turn on.
In general, you either have one system or the other or neither, but not both. Good luck.
Lift the handles do determine alarm system? Theres no lifting on broncos, just pushing. Lights comes on when you unlock the door remotely but nothing happens when you push the door mechanism and I have the factory alarm system.
A-ha! At least someone was actually reading my posts! Well, I got that from the Ford Factory Service Manuals. The handles are a push-button type, but according to the manuals, they are supposed to turn on the inside lights for about 25 seconds if you try to open the locked door. I have a dealer installed alarm, so I cannot confirm this.
