Hey all got a question for you. Wife broke drivers side mirror today, How hard is it to r and r. Is it just a matter of removing door panel and unpluging and un bolting or is it a PITA job. Thanks for any input. LPR
Pretty easy to do: remove the door panel, peel back the corner moisture barrier, disconnect & remove the speaker. Next, dsconnect the mirror electrical connector and remove the three nuts from the studs on the mirror assembly and you're there.
Just so you know- Explorer mirrors look just like the power mirrors on Rangers. And they're cheaper on eBay. But Explorer mirrors don't fit on Rangers....
And also watch out who you buy a new mirror from. I bought a set on eBay (wife cracked the passenger side one), and was going to replace both, just so they looked 100% the same.
Driver side mirror did not have the same tilt\pan as the old one, so I was left with looking down at the road. Took it off and put the old one back on. Spend a few more bucks and get a higher quality mirror. Now I have one sitting on the shelf in the garage.
I agree with the need to ensure a quality replacement part. For that reason, my first inclination on side mirrors is to try a local junkyard. A factory OEM unit in good shape is the best option, IMO.
(Might be a little hard to find one, though. Apparantly a lot of wives like to bang them up).
