Looking for best way to replace the driver side window gear plugs. The old drill out the rivit plan does not look like an option. Where am I going wrong??
2004 super cab lariat f150
Door panel is off, I can see the motor and cable links. The motor is not rivited to the door. One side is metal, the other plastic. I have changed gear plugs in a ford before, but this seems to be different,,,,
the whole system pulls out with about 5-6 bolts if I recall (minus the 2-for the window).
I recently changed mine over from the manual windows to power. I also don't remember anything "user/technician-friendly" in that assembly I took out.
If I can remember I'll go pull the units from storage and take a closer look tomorrow.
On Edit: I just re-read your response... you have pwr windows already. I'm not sure how much different the assembly is other than a motor and reg. I'm sure it still pulls out rather easily...

It depends on whether you have a Heritage 04 or a new body style 04. If it is a new body style you will likely need a new regulator and motor assembly. I havent seen the rods in a motor replacement since the nineties.
It's is the new body style truck, the motor runs but does not move the window. I just want to change out the rubber gear plugs. Can the motor assembly be removed without removing the entire regulator, ie. rails and cables?
I dont know, the only ones that I replace are complete assembly. You cant get them separately.
It is so simple to remove the entire assembly I wouldnt waste a lot of time trying to figure out a way to pull the motor separately if you cant find an obvious way to do it.
