I sank my truck in a mud hole today. Water/mud went up to the bottom of the doors. And it got the motor all wet and muddy. Is there anything i need to drain? Also when cleaning the motor is there any thing i need to cover or remove other than my open air filter?
Sad thing is, A litttle toyota truck had to pull me out. Embarasing
lol muddin in a diesel! as far as the yota pullin ya out it happends to the best of em!!! Foreman has it right, try not to use a pressure washer on the engine, and it's best if it's cold to warm. Also i let the thing air dry before i fire it up just incase some water is in a connection that it shouldn't be in!!! Better to be safe than sorry i suppose.
DRAIN DIFFS if thier was alot of water in the mud, also recomended to repack wheel bearings and clean water out of lockers incase they may have taken some in, check your transmission for water entry

Not exactly muddin, But Close enuff. Going to our jobsite and there was a spot were the river had flooded the field and our trail going in. Really needed the tools that where there so i put it in 4wd And saw what she would do. Luckily my bro was on his way in the yota and we had enuff chain to get im on dry ground to pull it out.
As for all the draining mentioned by DAVID'S97F250HD, It was only in there for about 15-20 min. Would you still recommend Draining and repacking?

Thanks for all the info so far !!
At the very least pull the plugs and look at your diff oil to see if its milky, according to the owners manual it states something like being at or over the level of the hubs to repack wheel bearings. realy you wont know untill you take it apart to see if you took on water in your bearings. only really have to do the front ones. The rear does not have to be done unless you sucked in some water on the rear diff.
Not saying you for sure took on water but I'll put it this way, you take it apart, spend the few hours and re-pack the bearings and checking the diffs, cost lets say $50 and you have peace of mind. Dont do it, spend the same amount of time and alot more money replaceing bearings and if the oil in the diffs are contaminated you roast the diffs which is ALOT more money.
I'm not saying you forsure have or took on water cause I'm not thier and I cant answer that, just saying what I recomond for you to do to assure you dont have water to make sure everything is alright. Its your decision and I dont want you to come back 3 weeks from now cursing that your bearings are roasted cause the grease was washed out.
Check transmission as well

David's right, even after 1 minute you may have water/mud in the bearings ect. Especially if the diffs and wheels bearings were warm. As soon as they hit the colder water a suction is created pulling the wter into the bearings. You may have been deep enough to submerge the axle vents too.
Do you need a special tool to get the bearings out? I think i read that somewhere.
sorry if it sounded like i was questioning you,DAVID'S97F250HD, Just wanted another persons opinion before i Started taking things apart to get to the bearings. Checked the diffs. and niether were milky, But rear looked Pretty black so i better change it any way. I havent checked the transmission yet, but i havent drove it sience then. Been letting it dry out.
You can get the special socket at most mega-auto part stores, Autozone ect. It can be rented for free with their tool loaner program. The hard part is getting th correct one, their are 2 that look alike.

i NEVER TOOK AT YOU WERE QUESTIONING ME, DONT THINK THAT, ON HERE WE ASK QUESTIONS (stupid cap locks) and I feel it is fair to question someones judgement call on a problem that another person may have suggested. Its a disscussion board, thats what its all about. As for the 2nd post I had made. I just got a little more indepth on it. I took no insult from this thread from what has been said. Its all good.
